Boston College and VCU entered tonight’s game both undefeated after opening night home wins against Fairfield and Bellarmine, respectively. VCU controlled the scoring early, jumping out to a 21-8 lead midway through the first half. Boston College’s scoring woes continued later in the half as the Eagles went on a nearly three-minute scoring drought prior to the 3:30 mark. However, the Rams had their own nearly four-minute scoring drought. That did not have a significant impact on the first-half score as VCU took a comfortable 33-20 lead into halftime.

VCU continued their dominance in the second half. The Rams shot 50% from the field through the first fourteen minutes of the second half. The Rams defense shined as well holding the Eagles to 29% shooting from the field. Boston College coach earl Grant said about the VCU defense “I thought their length when they trapped us bothered us”.
Coach Ryan Odom who used to live in Annapolis and was formerly the head coach at nearby UMBC talked about the significance of returning to his former home and how it was special to be back in the town and seeing friends and neighbors.
Up next for VCU, they return home to the Seigel Center to host Merrimack. Boston College will host Richmond next.
