Happening Hoops CBI Bracketology

March 13th 2021

The 2021 CBI will be held at the Ocean Center in Daytona Beach Florida. The tournament I’m told will be between eight and twelve teams this year.

College Basketball Invitational (12 teams)

  • Bellarmine (13-7 ASUN)
  • Army (12-9 Patriot)
  • Coastal Carolina (16-7 Sun Belt)
  • Stetson (11-14 ASUN)
  • Longwood (12-16 Big South)
  • California Baptist (13-9 WAC)
  • North Alabama (13-11 ASUN)
  • Eastern Kentucky (22-7 OVC)
  • Texas State (18-7 Sun Belt)
  • California State Bakersfield (15-11 Big West)
  • Missouri State (17-7 Missouri Valley)
  • Chattanooga (18-8 SoCon)

Some other teams to keep an eye on (Next 4 Out)

  • UAB (22-7 CUSA)
  • Norfolk State (15-7 MEAC)
  • Mercer (18-11 SoCon)
  • Jackson State (12-6 SWAC)

Reminder: Regular season conference champions are not guaranteed a spot in the 16 team National Invitational Tournament field this season.

My CBI and CIT prediction rate per year

2018: 75% (27/36)

2019: 93% (39/42)

*2020: Minimum of 88% It was later determined three days from selection Sunday (at the time of the cancelations) I had correctly predicted what would have been 37 of the 42 teams confirmed in the fields. I have reason to believe over those next three days I could have predicted even more of what would have been the eventual fields.

Morning from Texas, Ethan. My alma mater Texas State has been on your bubble the past few bracketologies. We won our first regular season title since 1999, thought for sure we would skate through the Sun Belt tourney just to have my heart broken again. We are a strong squad with a good record. Do you think we’re a lock for the CBI? Would love to see my Bobcats in the March Madness mix.
