George Washington kept their good momentum rolling as they won their fifth game in the last seven beating Rhode Island 72-61. This was the first game inside the Smith Center in over two weeks. The Colonials were coming off a three-game road trip that featured stops at UMass, Dayton, and Duquense. They won the games against the minutemen and dukes.

Saturday night the blue and buff put on a show against the visiting rams. George Washington led for all but the first 39 seconds of the game. George Washington jumped on Rhode Island early. They had a handful of tie-ups in the first half, and defensively were clicking. GW ended the half on an 8-0 including a buzzer-beating three from Joe Bamisile which won the students free tacos. GW coach Jamion Christian in speaking with the media said “I thought we finished both halves well, and that has been a major focus of ours in practice”.

In the second half, Rhode Island started on a 6-0 run which forced a GW timeout, but after the colonials regrouped they never looked back. Christian commented, “When you look at the A-10 I don’t think you don’t see a lot of teams improving, but we are one of those teams”. Joe Bamisile finished with 20 points, 4 rebounds, and 3 assists. The colonials continue their homestand with Richmond coming to DC on Tuesday night while Rhode Island heads to Olean for a date with St. Bonaventure.
