Happening Hoops CBI/The Basketball Classic Bracketology #10
By: Ethan Hennessy
Selection Sunday is only hours away! I have 18 confirmed teams and counting that are committed to one of the two tournaments in 2022. If you are new here welcome. I predict the fields of the College Basketball Invitational and Basketball Classic Postseason Tournaments which are postseason college basketball tournaments for teams that do not get invited to the NCAA Tournament or National Invitation Tournament (NIT). This is my fifth season doing this. I have a career 87% accuracy rate (111/128) of correctly predicting the fields of these tournaments.
Yearly breakdown
2018: 75% (27/36)
2019: 93% (39/42)
*2020: 88% minimum *It was later determined three days from Selection Sunday (at the time of the cancelations) I had already correctly predicted 37 of the would-be 42 teams confirmed in the fields.
2021: 100% (8/8)
2022: TBD
*Teams that captured the one seed in their conference tournament are not included in the CBI/Basketball Classic Bracketology because they receive their league’s automatic NIT bid in the event they do not win their conference tournament.

What about the MAC? Toledo will be in the NIT. Of Akron, Kent State, and Ohio one will be in the NCAA but clearly the other two deserve to keep playing somewhere.

Kent is possible, but now with that bad looking video that came out about their players I’m not sure.

I think ORU has chosen to not play this postseason….maybe you’ve talked to someone who says otherwise?

Just curious as to why a 22 win Furman was taken out of the latest projections for the Basketball Classic? It sounded like at least from the AD and the basketball announcer they were more than likely playing in the post season. They made us fans seem optimistic about any how.

I think they are waiting on NIT but if they don’t get in I think they will still play in one of the two.

What about Washington Huskies and Washington State Cougars out of Pac-12?

You have Oaklahoma St. in the Basketball Classic. They are ineligible for 2022 postseason play related to NCAA violations stemming from the 2017 FBI probe into corruption within college basketball.
